Got Junk?

Maybe you're getting ready to sell your house, move into a new one, or just need to "purge" your current diggs, many of us can relate to the couple in this comic. Before you throw all of that stuff out, think about turning your trash into another person's treasure and donate it! Not only will you help another family, but it's much better for our earth, AND it's a tax writeoff*. Did I mention, you may even feel warm and fuzzy inside about your good deed? Checkout the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio's website for more details about donating, how they operate, and who they help.

Essential Items Include:
  • Matresses and/or Box springs
  • Dressers
  • Sofas
  • Loveseats
  • Stuffed Chairs
  • Kitchen tables
  • Kitchen chairs
  • Washers or Dryers
  • Refrigerators
  • Stoves
They take plenty of other items (dishes, lamps, end tables, etc., etc.) as well but donating one of the above earns you a free pickup.

Also, if you're going to be remodeling or have extra "supplies" that the furniture bank won't take, donate those to Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. They have an even more extensive list (counter tops, sinks, lighting, tools, etc, etc). Check it out here. Think about a contractor or small business you know that might benefit from this information as well and send this info on to them. You may think it's a small difference but a lot of "small differences" can turn into a big impact!
